Consumptive Use Permit Hydrologic Monitoring
Florida
Overview
On behalf of Seminole County, Florida, Water & Air has prepared monitoring plans and conducted hydrologic monitoring to address District conditions summarized in Consumptive Use Permit #8230. As part of this work Water & Air was tasked with developing a wetland monitoring plan to monitor possible impacts to surface water features in the vicinity of several municipal wellfields. The plan included the selection and construction of seventeen wetland monitoring stations. At each station Water & Air was responsible for developing soil profiles, performing wetland delineation, installing piezometers and staff gauges to monitor surface water levels, and conducting photographic monitoring of wetland stations. In addition to monitoring surface water features, Water & Air also collected quarterly water level hydrologic data and groundwater quality samples from seventeen Floridan aquifer production wells and eight Floridan aquifer monitoring wells to monitor possible changes in area water levels and groundwater quality caused by permitted groundwater withdrawals.
Monitoring station vegetation clearing was also conducted three to four times a year during the active growing season. This work was performed using hand and power tools and does not require use of herbicides. Results and findings of hydrologic monitoring was summarized quarterly CUP monitoring reports that are submitted to the District for review and approval.
