Ponce De Leon Inlet
Volusia County, Florida
Overview
The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) initiated a program to mitigate environmental impacts resulting from historic dredging and navigation improvements at coastal inlets. Water & Air completed a biological inventory to assist Taylor Engineering in these efforts at Ponce De Leon Inlet and the nearby Intracoastal Waterway. The 3000-acre study area near the inlet was inventoried for biological resources.
Details - Biological Resource Inventory.
- Florida Land Use Cover and Forms Classification System (FLUCFCS) Mapping.
- Identification of submerged aquatic vegetation and oyster resources.
- Endangered and Threatened Species Survey.
Results The ecological data gathered were instrumental in allowing Taylor Engineering to complete the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Coordination Act Report (CAR) portion of the feasibility study to determine ecologically viable mitigation options in the region. |
