The School Board of Marion County needed to evaluate the environmental liabilities associated with three parcels of land being considered as a possible new school site in the Marion Oaks development. Water & Air scientists performed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment and an ecological assessment of the properties. A site inspection was done and observations were collected on the subject property and adjacent properties.
- Interviewed persons familiar with site.
- Reviewed regulatory lists and historical documents to determine the potential for soil and groundwater contamination.
- Performed a pedestrian survey to determine possible occurrence of endangered, threatened, and special concern species.
- Evaluated wetland and upland habitats.
No significant environmental obstacles were identified during the due diligence investigations. The School Board was able to proceed with the property acquisition for the new school sites located in the southwestern portion of the County.
